Dear IRS I was the victim of identity theft. After entering only a small amount of interest from one 1099-int into the tax preparation website I use, when I logged in again, a message popped up congratulating me for successfully filing my 2025 return and its acceptance by the IRS. The only other information was that I had a $16,310 refund comming. I received no communication from the IRS, a confirmation or otherwise. There was absolutely no doubt that this was phoney. Shortly thereafter, I submitted a 14039 form at the IRS website. I also obtained identity protection pins for both myself and my wife. At the IRS website, I asked the question "where's my refund?" I was told my refund was rejected, that more information was needed. I then spoke with serveral IRS reps on the phone, trying to find out what to do. I was told in no uncertain terms that my only option was to file a paper return, not an amended return, which is enclosed. Also, I notice that I failed to enter "Address used on last filed tax return" in the 14039. We are snowbirds, currently in Florida; and I entered 840 VIRGINIA ST APT 303, Dunedin, FL as "Current mailing address", I'm sure that I filed the last 11 or 12 returns from 1815 Hampshire Street, Quincy, IL 62301.
