High above the Salzach River in Salzburg Province. Fortunately, I had snapped a brake cable and volunteered to ride ahead to the next town to get it replaced, before the decision whether to take the low road below or follow the Tauern Bike Path uphill had to be made. I chose the low road, which was fine as long as you didn't look to the right at the rocks leading down to the river. Since my brother, the assistant ride leader, had a good map, I didn't mention they would have to make a decision, not wanting to influence the decision. Needless to say, they were cursing me as they finally made their way down to the river at the next town.(2000)

Changing trains early in the morning in Sargans, Switzerland. Sargans is across the Rhine from Lichtenstein and about an hour from Zürich by train. It is a good jumping off point for touring the Rhine valley, Lichtenstein, and the flatter portions of Vorarlberg (the western most province in Austria). (1999)

St. Anton am Arlberg in far western Tyrol. It is, along with Kitzbühl, one of the top two ski resorts in Austria. It was the only place we have ever been that was completely closed in June.(2001)
