MADISON COUNTY TRANSIT SYSTEM
Conclusion
- For trail conditions and scenery, I would give the MCT Trail system 5 stars. There were no expansion cracks and hardly any tree roots trying to break through. The grass along the side was mowed and the brush cut back. The one non-asphalt segment I saw was in fine condition
- I would give it zero stars for amenities; there were none.
- There were no benches, picnic tables, mile markers, or directional signs, only 3 parks, and 1 (closed) restroom.
- At some of the major junctions there were sign boards with information and and a system map. But the maps' scale was too small to help navigate, in most cases. Some of the junctions were quite complicated, which in my opinion added to the fun.
- To help decide which way to go at junctions, small arrows and trail names were painted on the trail surface. Some them were starting to fade. I passed quite a few of them before I was aware of them.
- Since the Madison County Transit System built and maintains the trails, you would think municipalities and businesses would provide some amenities, or at least signs pointing to business or points of interest
- Despite passing through exurbia, you felt like you were in deep woods, as the pictures attest. I don't remember a single big box retailer
- I'm sure it's not the case with all the trails, but the ones we were on were mostly in the shade
- The porta potty at the Wanda Trailhead made me think that if you need a restroom, you might look for the nearest trailhead
- I highly recommend the MCT Trail system. All in all I would love to do it again, even though the nearest trailhead is a 2:15 drive.
